The Northern Ireland Act 1998 (the Act) requires public authorities in carrying out their functions relating to Northern Ireland to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and regard to the desirability of promoting good relations.
As a public authority, Magherafelt District Council has drawn up an Equality Scheme in accordance with its responsibilities under the Act. This Scheme outlines how the Council proposes to fulfil its duties under Section 75 and Schedule 9 of the Act and was approved by the Equality Commission in September 2001..

Consultation on Equality Impact Assessments
Magherafelt District Council has recently revised a number of Equality Impact Assessments for the Administration and Development Departments.
The assessments, which have been approved in principle by Council, are listed below.

These assessments will remain open for consultation until Friday 28th March.
