Publication Scheme

Background to the Scheme

Magherafelt District Council is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act). This legislation creates new rights of access to information but also identifies certain exemptions from the duty to disclose information.

The Council is required under the Act to adopt and maintain a Publication Scheme, which will set out classes of information it publishes/intends to publish and the charges it makes/intends to make for this information.

Responsibility for the Scheme

Overall responsibility for the Publication Scheme rests with the Council's Chief Executive, Mr John A McLaughlin.

Mrs Florence Wilson, Personnel/Administrative Officer maintains the Scheme on a day-to-day basis.

Requesting information

Information governed by the Publication Scheme may be requested in the following ways:

• By post

The request should clearly identify that the request is made in connection with the Council's Publication Scheme;

• By email

Please submit electronic requests to info@magherafelt.gov.uk

The request should clearly state "Freedom of Information Publication Scheme Request" in the subject bar of the email;

• In person

Individuals may, by prior arrangement, call at the Council Offices to either view or collect the relevant information.

In such circumstances the applicant will be required to complete a "Freedom of Information Request", the purpose of which will be to assist in the ongoing monitoring of the efficiency of the relevant administrative arrangements.

Information may be requested under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 generally by submitting the request in writing to the Council. However, in order to most efficiently deal with such requests the Council would ask that all requests be directed in writing to:
