Many people are injured each year due to faulty consumer goods. The environmental health department is responsible for enforcing Consumer Protection legislation within the District. This legislation is primarily aimed at protecting consumers from the risks associated with the supply of unsafe goods from importers, distributors, manufacturers and retailers.
The main piece of legislation governing Consumer Protection is The Consumer Protection Act 1987 and the regulations made under it which impose safety requirements for a wide range of consumer goods.
Some examples of these are:
- Electrical Equipment
- Cosmetics
- Toys
- Construction Products
- Furniture
