Register a Food Business with Environmental Health

All businesses, which offer food for sale within Magherafelt District Council area, are required to register with the Environmental Department of the Council under the Food Premises (Registration) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1992. Mobile premises and market stalls must be registered at the place where they are normally kept even though they may trade in another area.

Application for registration must be made in writing at least 28 days before opening by completing the application form provided and submitting it to this department. There is no charge for registration. The form records information relating to the premises address, owners details, type of activity and food served, number of employees, etc.

If there is a change in ownership of a food business then the new owner must complete a new application form and submit it to this department within 28 days of the change.

Magherafelt District Council keeps a register of food premises in its area, which is available for inspection by the public. There are 373 food premises registered in the area, ranging from producers, manufacturers, retailers and caterers.
