Magherafelt Civic Amenity Site

The Council Depot, 50 Ballyronan Road, Magherafelt.

Magherafelt is the busiest of the Council's 4 civic amenity sites, servicing as it does Magherafelt, which the largest town in the area, with the largest number of domestic properties and the largest number of businesses. It is accessed off the Ballyronan Road and you must drive past the main Council buildings and their depot. It is sign posted from the Ballyronan Road.

This is the largest and the most modern of the Council's 4 civic amenity sites. Custom built in 2003 to accommodate the segregation and recycling of materials it will utilise a series of hatches along one side of the newly built recycling facility to collect a whole range of materials for recycling. Larger bulkier materials such as wood, rubble and green waste will be collected externally in roll on / roll off skips and removed for recycling or composting. Specialised containers for hazardous substances such as oil, batteries, paint and Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment will also be provided.

Maghera Civic Amenity Site

Station Road Industrial Estate, Station Road, Maghera.

This is the second busiest site in the District, servicing Maghera the second largest town in the District. The site, which is located in the Station Road Industrial Estate is accessed of the Station Road, almost directly opposite the well know Mid Ulster Garden Centre, which provides a useful landmark for those that are unfamiliar with the site.

This was one of the Council's old skip sites but it has been up graded and reorganised to shift the emphasis from disposal to recycling. While much smaller in scale than the Magherafelt site, it does as with all the Council's 4 civic amenity sites still provide the same comprehensive list of recycling facilities as offered in Magherafelt, as well as accepting both domestic and commercial waste for disposal.

Once again it is attended at all times while open.

Castledawson Civic Amenity Site

Moyola Road, Castledawson.

Like Maghera this site was one of the Council's old skip sites. Once again it has been upgraded and reorganised to promote recycling as opposed to disposal. It too has a comprehensive range of recycling facilities, accepts both domestic and commercial waste for disposal and is attended at all times while open.

Accessed of the Moyola Road it is on your left when leaving the village and travelling towards the Hillhead. Approximately half way between bridge street and the new Moyola bridge it is sign posted from the Moyola Road but is not really visible from the road, having only a narrow entrance but opening out into a large rectangular site.

With lots of new housing developments around Castledawson in recent years it has become an increasingly busy site. The planned upgrading and reorganisation of the is not fully complete but the Council has plans to complete resurface the and improve signage and facilities over the next few years.

Draperstown Civic Amenity Site

Workspace Industrial Estate, Magherafelt Road, Draperstown.

This site is located in the adjacent to Sperrin Galvanisers in the Workspce Inductrial Estate on the Magherafelt Road. While not on the same scale as the Magherafelt site this is another brand new site provided by the Council which has the same comprehensive range of facilities as the other sites and offers substantial room for expansion. Once again the site has been designed with recycling and waste segregation in mind and a one way system takes the public past the full range of recycling facilities before they come to the skips for the disposal of waste. Thereby changing the emphasis from disposal to recycling.

As with the other sites the site is attended at all times while open.
