Magherafelt District Advice Services Ltd replaces the old Citizens Advice Bureau which effectively closed in Magherafelt in June 2008.

Since the closure of Magherafelt Advice Bureau thousands of people in the Magherafelt Area have suffered because of the lack of adequate advice provision. This is evidenced by the fact that in the intervening 5 months the offices of the four main political parties have been inundated with requests for advice. The Citizens Advice Service in the area generated approximately £700,000 in money back to the community in the last year and dealt with over 10,000 requests for advice from the public. Both of these statistics are expected to increase dramatically during the coming year as a result of the current financial climate.

It has a strong and enthusiastic workforce of four qualified staff and Eight Volunteers which provides a full time service from 9.00 am - 5.00 pm five days per week. A proposed enhancement from the old service is the addition of an evening clinic, probably from 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm on Tuesday evenings.

The need was clearly there for a new professional advice agency which we are now happy to inform you has been set up and is in practice.

Magherafelt District Advice Service Ltd is an independent, impartial, confidential and free advice Service for all clients in the Magherafelt District Area.

This new organisation provides telephone, face to face, home visits and general advice on a wide range of topics such as benefits and benefit checks, form filling, negotiation, consumer, employment, housing, debt, immigration, and much more.

The organisation has two money advisors who are able to assist clients with money management and debt issues.

Magherafelt District Advice Service have specialist advisors who are trained to assist and represent at social security appeals and employment negotiation and also work closely with specialist agencies to provide our clients with advice and advocacy in other areas such as housing.
