At just under 6km, this popular 'Highway to Health' walk around Magherafelt town is a simple and innovative scheme which aims to encourage people of all ages to walk for leisure, health and well being.
As an alternative the walk can be divided into two shorter circuits. The Hospital Road, Tobermore Road and Garden Street route measures just under 2.5km, while the King Street, Ballyronan Road, Ring Road, Highfield Road route measures nearly 4.5km.
The starting point is located at the bottom of Broad Street, opposite The Bridewell Tourist Information Centre. However all of the walks can be started at any point on the circuit and walked in either direction.
It is recommended that every adult should accumulate 30 minutes of physical activity at least four times per week to help combat and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease - particularly as Northern Ireland has one of the highest rates of heart disease and stroke in the western world.
Walking is one of the simplest, safest and most effective forms of physical activity. It can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, anxiety and depression.
So get on your walking shoes and stretch those legs, you'll be pleasantly surprised how good you feel after your walk!
