Tamlaght which means "The burial place of the O'Crillys, is a small country village on the road from Garvagh to Portglenone. The topography around Tamlaght is typical of landscape found throughout the Lower Bann valley, comprising dry arable hills surrounded by wet fen and raised bog in the lower ground.
It is interesting to note that raised bog, such as those found in the area are now becoming very scarce throughout Ireland and are rarely found in Britain and Europe.
Within the village is an environmental and heritage interpretative walk which embraces the physical, biological and historical features of the area.
The walk starts off at the rest area in the centre of Tamlaght. From here you cross the main road and walk down the adjacent access entry. At the end of the entry turn left and walk approximately 65m until you reach a row of mature Beech trees, then turn right onto the laneway. Continue along the laneway for approximately 50m before turning right onto the entrance of the locally named 'Tunnel'.
The walk continues from the Tunnel towards the Turf Road for approximately 750m. At the Turf Road junction turn right and walk 250m onto the Drumlane Road. Again turn right and follow the road 550m back to starting point in the centre of the village.
