The Carntogher Way includes two circular routes stretching across the unique landscape around the Carntogher Mountain which marks the juncture between the older metamorphic rocks of the Sperrins and the younger basalts of the Antrim Plateau.
Suitable for able walkers with experience of mountain and hill walking, Route A rises 464m (1534ft) and is a full circular walk on road, track and open mountain terrain. To complete the walk go north from Tullykeeran Bridge. Turn left when you reach the wooden gate and stile unto the 'coach road' which leads to the waterfall on the Alkerran River.
From here the route starts to climb north towards the summit or 'snout' where you will find 'Shane's leaps' and the 'Emigrants' Cairn'. At this point you can follow the track north or climb the 'snout' (unmarked way) to reach the summit cairn.
Once back on the track make your way down the mountain passing a Bronze Age cist grave on your left. Where the track joins the public road, turn right and continue through 'Back Parks' to the starting point.
Route B, suitable for those with a moderate level of fitness, is a short mountain walk, following tracks and road all the way. Commencing at Tullykeeran Bridge it follows the same route as walk A to Carntogher Mountain, returning via the stone track through the two sets of wooden gates. The route continues south on road, taking you back to the starting point.
